SMG-5400 – Wireless LAN Modbus Gateway
SMG-5400 is an industrial Modbus gateway that routes and converts Modbus traffic between serial line (Modbus/RTU or Modbus/ASCII) and Modbus/TCP. It adds Wi-Fi connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g) and provides a universal serial port selectable as RS232, RS422, or RS485, making it ideal when cabling is difficult or when you need flexible serial integration.
Key features
- • Converts and routes Modbus between serial line (RTU/ASCII) and Modbus/TCP networks.
- • IEEE 802.11 b/g WLAN with Infrastructure and Soft AP modes.
- • Universal serial port selectable as RS232, RS422, or RS485 (DB9 male).
- • Supports multiple TCP connections (max. 4 channels) for practical SCADA/HMI integration.
- • RP-SMA connector for external antenna options; supports WPA/WPA2 and WPA-Enterprise options.
Modbus protocol conversion in real projects
SMG-5400 bridges the gap between legacy serial Modbus devices and modern IP-based Modbus/TCP systems. Use it to connect meters, controllers, and sensors to SCADA/HMI software over Wi-Fi—without changing field devices.
- • Ideal for retrofits and expansions where Ethernet cabling is expensive or impractical.
- • Universal serial port supports typical industrial wiring (RS485 multi-drop, RS422 point-to-point, RS232 local).
Wi-Fi setup: Infrastructure or Soft AP
Use Infrastructure mode to join an existing Wi-Fi network, or Soft AP mode when you need direct access for commissioning (for example, when there is no available access point on site).
- • Soft AP is useful for field setup and maintenance workflows.
- • Security options include WPA/WPA2 and WPA-Enterprise variants (depending on configuration).
