SMG-5620 – Industrial Modbus Gateway (RS232/RS422/RS485 ↔ Modbus/TCP)

SMG-5620 is an industrial Modbus Gateway that converts and routes Modbus data between the serial line and Modbus/TCP. It combines a rugged steel enclosure, electrical isolation, and a universal serial interface (selectable RS232/RS422/RS485) to build reliable Modbus bridges in harsh industrial environments.

Electrical Isolation
2500Vrms (1 minute)
Up to 4 TCP Channels
Multiple clients concurrently
Wide Power Input

Key features of the SMG-5620

  • Industrial Modbus gateway between serial Modbus (RTU/ASCII) and Modbus/TCP.
  • Selectable RS232/RS422/RS485 “universal” serial port with electrical isolation.
  • Supports multiple TCP connections (up to 4 channels) and password-based access control.
  • Bypass mode: forwards raw TCP payload to serial (and back) without converting Modbus ADU—useful for non-Modbus serial protocols.
  • Rugged build: steel case, over-voltage protection, and frame grounding terminal.

RTU / ASCII conversion + Bypass mode

SMG-5620 supports standard Modbus conversion modes for RTU and ASCII, translating Modbus/TCP ADU to serial Modbus ADU and vice versa. When you need a simple serial tunnel, Bypass mode transfers TCP payload to serial data without Modbus conversion.

  • Use Modbus/RTU mode for classic RTU field devices connected to Modbus/TCP hosts.
  • Use Modbus/ASCII mode when your serial side requires ASCII framing.
  • Use Bypass mode for “serial-over-TCP” style forwarding (non-Modbus serial payloads).
Universal serial interface
One gateway model covers RS232, RS422 and RS485—simplifying standardization across different sites.
Isolation for reliability
Electrical isolation helps reduce ground-loop issues and improves robustness in industrial installations.
Modbus gateway routing
Enables communication between serial-line Modbus masters/slaves and network-side Modbus/TCP devices.
Bypass mode
Forward raw serial payloads over TCP when you need tunneling rather than Modbus conversion.
Industrial power & grounding
Wide DC input on terminal block plus frame grounding support typical industrial cabinet wiring practices.
Configuration with spFinder
Configure and monitor the gateway using the spFinder tool and basic password protection.
